What is OLYMPIC "A/B" Standard?

Miranda started Race Walking in High School to help her team get points at track meets.

A technically demanding event, race walking is continuing to grow in popularity across all age groups for its fitness and competitive aspects.

The Rush NY native was a champion in the junior ranks and has consistently qualified for the USA Senior Nationals in Track & Field, both Indoors, at the 3000m distance, and Outdoors, at the Olympic 20k distance

The Race Walk has been an Olympic event since 1906!

Racewalking in the Olympics
is contested at 20km and 50km.
"The 2016 Olympics would be awesome, that's one of my goals!."
Miranda likes the challenge of trying to go faster and farther.

Racewalking is a Judged event.

What do the Paddles mean?

Miranda racewalked a 10K in under 53 minutes. That's faster than 445 people ran the same distance at the Medved Lilac 10K in Rochester, NY in 2007. --And don't forget, she was walking.

.2008 Jr. Nationals, columbus OH
2008 Jr. Nat'l Champion
"You just have to persevere and stay committed and know that if you put in the time and effort, that's where you could end up."

"Race Walking taught me patience, dedication, & prioritization. I believe through hard work and dedication to the training you become a better athlete."

"I practice every day, seven days a week. No matter how I feel, no matter what the weather, I know I have to show the di scipline to get out there and workout."

USATF Race Walking

The Athlete ...This All American excelled on the USA Junior National team and won the Junior National championship before moving up to the senior ranks. She has compeated on the international stage in Russia, Mexico and Canada for Team USA, and the USA World Cup Teams. She is an Empire State Games Champion, Olympic Trials Qualifier, and scholar athlete...

At the highest levels, an athlete can average 7 minute miles over a 50-kilometer competition.

"Race walking is anything but a stroll in the park, and it certainly isn't like the speed walking you see ladies do at the mall. It's a real sport and it takes practice and intense training both mentally and physically"

Why Race Walk?

" I like being a part of something
a little more unique."

Miranda racewalks or walks anywhere from 3 to 15 miles a day, 80+ miles/ week, lift weights, does core exercises in preperation for 20 kilometer Olympic races.

Race walking can have much the same cardiovascular benefits of running but with less impact on joints, and can burn 90 - 120 calories per mile.

Heart rates of racewalkers are often higher than joggers because both the upper body as well as the lower body is used.
